VANCOUVER – Just a couple of days after using his Twitter account to pitch for an invite to next week’s RBC Canadian Open, John Daly got his wish Wednesday.

Golf Canada has confirmed that Daly has been given a sponsor’s exemption into the $5.2-million tournament at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club.

“Thank u for the invite and a chance to see my Canadian Fans next week!” Daly said on his Twitter account Wednesday from Sandwich, England, where he is competing in this week’s British Open at Royal St. George’s.

Daly, who won the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 British Open, has lost his exempt status on the PGA Tour and relies mainly on sponsor’s exemptions to play. He has made the cut in just four of 12 events this year.
